Instructional Leadership  |  Non-Teaching Position 

POSITION SUMMARY

The Dean of Faculty provides dedicated instructional leadership across all departments at ASD. This is a full-time, non-teaching position designed specifically so that the Dean is fully available throughout the day to support faculty, be present in classrooms, and lead the ongoing professional development of ASD's teaching staff. 

The Dean of Faculty oversees the Academic Chairs, works closely with the Assistant Director and Dean of Students to coordinate across the school's leadership work, and reports directly to the Director.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

 Instructional Quality & Faculty Support

Maintain a regular and visible presence in classrooms across all departments

  • Provide timely, specific, and actionable feedback to teachers following observations

  • Coach and mentor faculty-- from new teachers to experienced staff-- to strengthen instructional practice

  • Lead structured onboarding for new teachers and support their development through their first years

  • Foster a positive, collaborative professional culture among faculty

  • Monitor teacher performance of professional responsibilities including grading, attendance, and duties

  • Manage and support performance improvement processes in partnership with HR

  • Participate in and advise on instructional hiring

  • Attend parent-teacher meetings as needed and serve as a resource for faculty in those conversations

  • Advocate for faculty needs with school leadership

 

Professional Development & Growth

  • Design and lead school-wide professional development programming

  • Develop and maintain a master staff development plan aligned to school goals

  • Identify and create opportunities for teacher leadership, recognition, and growth

  • Support faculty in certification and recertification processes

  • Facilitate peer observation and collaborative learning opportunities

  • Stay current on research and best practices in pedagogy and bring those to the faculty

 


Leadership & Collaboration

  • Reports directly to the Director of School-- ensuring that faculty voice, instructional priorities, and staff development needs have a clear and consistent presence at the highest level of school leadership

  • Meet regularly with the Assistant Director and Dean of Students to identify shared priorities, coordinate across departments, and ensure school-wide alignment

  • Lead a collaborative team of Academic Deans/Chairs, working together to drive curriculum initiatives, departmental goals, and academic program development

  • Report directly to the Director, keeping the Director informed on faculty matters-- from day-to-day developments to larger trends in staff performance, culture, and needs

  • Contribute to long-range planning for instructional staffing and program development

  • Ensure quality and consistency in emergency coverage and substitute lesson plans

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 Required

  • New Hampshire educator certification — one of the following

    • NH Principal Instructional Leader or Associate Principal Instructional Leader license

    • NH Curriculum Administrator license

    • NH Instructional Specialist license with demonstrated experience in a formal instructional leadership, coaching, or supervisory role

    • NH teaching license with demonstrated experience in a formal instructional leadership, coaching, or supervisory role

    • Out-of-state educator license in a comparable area, eligible for NH reciprocity

  • Master's degree in Education Leadership, Curriculum & Instruction, Teaching, or a related field

  • Demonstrated experience supervising, coaching, or formally evaluating classroom teachers

  • Strong knowledge of instructional best practices and professional development strategies

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to build trust with faculty across experience levels

 

Preferred

  • Background working across multiple content areas or grade levels

  • Demonstrated interest in and passion for innovative approaches to teaching and learning

  • Experience designing and facilitating professional development for adult learners

  •  Background/interest in STEM-related teaching and learning


Salary: $70,000
